Submission guidelines
Types of Friction
-
Static Friction
- Acts when an object is at rest and prevents it from moving.
- It must be overcome to initiate motion.
- Example: Pushing a heavy box that doesn’t move initially.
-
Kinetic (Sliding) Friction
- Occurs when an object is already in motion.
- Usually less than static friction.
- Example: Sliding a book across a table.
-
Rolling Friction
- Happens when an object rolls over a surface.
- Much weaker than sliding friction.
- Example: A rolling ball or bicycle wheels.
Topic categories
- Factors Affecting Friction
- Lubrication: Oil or grease can reduce friction.
- Material Type: Some materials naturally have higher or lower friction.
- Normal Force: Heavier objects experience more friction.
- Surface Roughness: Rougher surfaces create more friction.
